Larry Briggs
Larry began his ministry in 1985 leading singing and teaching the auditorium class at a church here in Smithville. The following year he answered the call to preach and began doing Tent Revivals and Brush Arbors with other local ministers. He began a jail ministry first in Smithville, and went on to minister at the State Prison Work Farm for two years. In 1988 he led a youth trip to New Mexico where they did two VBS sessions and a Tent Revival on the Navaho Indian Reservation during the ten day trip. He also raised money to provide over 3,000 bibles and VBS material for the entire reservation for a number of years.
Larry began playing Trumpet in the Fifth Grade and later went to Cal State in California on a Music Scholarship playing Tuba. He has been playing trumpet in churches since about 1987. He competed in Senior Adult Talent in the Brass Division for four years at the State and National levels. He won the State all four years, and the Nationals once, and was runner up the other three years. He is also the back-up Bass Guitar player, and enjoys playing keyboard for the fun of it.
He has been the church Treasurer and served on the Pastor’s Board at two churches spanning almost ten years. He occasionally fills in for the Pastor, is very supportive of the youth, and helps in the Career Age Sunday School Class which he started a couple of years ago. He also writes articles promoting events coming up to be placed in the media. His favorite activity is to greet the people before and after the services here at First Assembly.  Larry is employed as a Senior Programmer Analyst and has been doing work in the computer field for 50 years this year.
